Chromatic Roots of the Quartic Möbius Ladders

Norman Biggs

Bracelet theory allows the chromatic polynomials of certain families of graphs to be written in a standard form. This form is particularly appropriate for studying the limit curves of the chromatic roots of these families. In this paper these techniques are applied to the quartic Mobius ladders. A simple explicit formula for the chromatic polynomials is obtained, and the limit curves are determined. There is remarkable agreement with the experimental evidence.
